I'll Get By is an updated remake of the 1940 20th Century-Fox musical Tin Pan Alley. In Dreams: The Roy Orbison Story recently aired as part of a PBS Pledge Break special that I recorded off from. It follows his life and career from the 1960s to his death in 1988. You see him perform all his famous songs including: "Only the Lonely", "Sweet Dreams, Baby", "Crying", "In Dreams", "Anything You Want", and of course, "Pretty Woman". You see two performances of the latter, the first one when it came out with the words "Come with me, baby", the other one near the end of his life with Bruce Springsteen teaming with him on an elongated guitar duet and Orbison now singing "Come to me, baby". It also covers his tragedies such as the death of his first wife and later, their two sons.
Lakmé, Delibes greatest opera, is performed by Opera Australia in all its oriental glory. Starring the exquisite coloratura soprano Emma Matthews as the innocent girl priestess Lakmé, and superb tenor Aldo Di Toro as the love-struck Gerald, the story tackles religion and cross-cultural love against a backdrop of British rule in India in the mid-19th century. French conductor Emmanuel Joel-Hornak brings out the full depth of the lush, dramatic score, with familiar high points being the beautiful renditions of the well-known Flower duet and Bell Song. Dominica Matthews adds her rich voice as Mallika and Stephen Bennett is darkly dominating as Brahmin priest Nilakantha, Lakmés father, while Roxane Hislop is a consumate Mistress Bentson. Set and costume designs by Mark Thompson fill the stage with rich colour, atmosphere and exoticism, complemented by Nigel Levings warm lighting. This restudied production, originally conceived by Adam Cook, is skilfully directed by Roger Hodgman.

Sing, Baby, Sing represented the feature-film debut of the Ritz Brothers, who are in top form in their specialty numbers--and who are awarded a final curtain call after the "The End" title, just so the audience won't forget them (The same device was used to introduce British actor George Sanders in Fox's Lancer Spy [37]).
