Als Plop en zijn vrienden in het Kabouterbos een kleine Golden Retriever ontdekken, schrikken ze zich te pletter! Maar al snel verovert deze schattige hond de harten van onze kabouters en willen ze niets liever dan dat Kwispel bij hen in het bos blijft wonen. Maar aan de andere kant van het bos, in de grote-mensen-wereld, is er een jongetje heel erg verdrietig. Hij mist Kwispel. Hij zou er alles aan doen om zijn puppie terug te vinden. Als Plop en zijn vrienden vernemen dat Kwispel een grote-mensen-baasje heeft, besluiten ze om het hondje terug te brengen. Maar daardoor storten de kabouters zich in een ongekend avontuur. Als dat maar goed afloopt!
Kabouter Plop houdt samen met zijn kaboutervrienden Lui, Klus en Kwebbel een lenteschoonmaak in zijn paddestoel. Bij het schoonmaken van de schoorsteen ontdekt Klus een schatkaart. De kabouters besluiten om samen de Kabouterschat te zoeken. Maar... de tocht is moeilijk en gevaarlijk. De kabouters moeten over een gammele hangbrug en door een bos dat overbevolkt is met vogels. Op de koop toe moeten ze een grote-mensen-weg oversteken. Onderweg ontmoeten Plop, Lui, Klus en Kwebbel nog twee andere kabouters, Pif en haar broer Paf. Lui wordt smoorverliefd op Pif. Door een toeval komt de schatkaart in de handen van Pif en Paf. Ook zij gaan op zoek naar de schat.
Kabouter Plop verwacht, net als alle andere jaren, een bezoekje van de Kerstkabouter. Alleen loopt het dit jaar een beetje mis... Mik en Mak, twee kabouters die jaar na jaar door de Kerstkabouter vergeten worden, gooien roet in het eten. De twee gaan aan de haal met de slee van de Kerstkabouter. The film is a sub-story to Kirikou and the Sorceress rather than a straight sequel. The movie is set while Kirikou is still a child and Karaba is still a sorceress. After Bernd (Cas Enklaar) picks up his daughter Walyne (Tara Fallaux) who lives with her mother, he takes her off for a supposed day of fun together. His idea of fun is to get his hands on as much free alcohol as he can, and as a result of his carelessness he and his daughter are constantly separated. Each time they reunite, he finds a new group of people for a few more drinks, and another round starts -- as a consequence, there is no build-up to the climax at the end.
