Lynchburg Virginia is a present day mecca for the influx of Baptists that study there at the world's largest Christian college and for the immigrating retirees that arrive frequently. Today, the central Virginia city celebrates their history but they had to "make it" first. A bygone time when it was an industrial mecca is the setting for this satire. A long period of an "old money and those that work for them" social structure faded only recently. The story is an accurate depiction of the varied types of daft characters that populated the elite when that money was new - during an era of boom and rapid growth. There is an addictive nostalgia to the black and white photography as well as the quirky acting typical for the times. Considered hilarious by the locals who "get it," this film is a treasure.
A Braodway playwright wants to keep on writing plays for his wife to star in, but all she wants is to retire to Connecticut and, following a few 'worlds-apart" discussion of the issue, they get a divorce. The actress marries a banker in a fit of pique only to quickly discover the divorce was not valid. She communicates this information to her not-yet ex-husband and he, to prevent consummation of the invalid marriage rescues her by sending plumbers, waiters, porters, chambermaids, bellhops, desk clerks, exterminators and, finally, a crowd of roistering conventioneers to the suite to ensure no bedtime story would take place there

This is a charming and successful farce from director Thomas Gilou, featuring a witty screenplay co-authored by producer Monique Annaud. When a group of African squatters in Paris are threatened with eviction, they find themselves fighting against a bureaucracy that few French citizens understand, let alone immigrants. In desperation, they turn to their best option to resolve this dilemma: they call for a sorcerer from home. The sorcerer hops on a jet to Paris to cast spells on the entrenched bureaucrat, and while en route he strikes up a conversation with a fellow passenger, mentioning his job pays quite well. The interested passenger could stand to make a few extra francs, so he decides to take the sorcerer's place. Once he arrives, this imposter has to act like he knows what he is doing, and at the same time, he had better solve the eviction problem.
