The project, however, is born under the bad sign, apparently doomed from the start. When they arrive, the roof is about to cave in, so that the actors are told to wear safety helmets. Their sole consistent audience is a laborer (Andrzej Mastalerz) who rather follows each dress rehearsal than watching over his seven-year-old son who has suffered a tragic accident in the factory.

Northwest Mounted Police Corporal Jerry Hale is assigned to take over the district of a fellow-officer, and is puzzled as he had worked this district before and had been mysteriously transferred, disrupting his romance with Helen Brent, the niece of Peter Barkley, the Factor at the trading post. His opportunity arises when he learns that Helen's father and his brother-in-law, Nathan Brent, has struck it rich and is on his way to visit Helen. Barkley instructs his henchmen Carney and Breen to lie in wait and rob Brent of his gold. Brent has a premonition of trouble and buries his gold, making a map of the location. Barkley is disturbed by the arrival of Corporal Hale and goes to warn his men, and finds them already engaged in the attack on Brent. It stars Mohanlal, Urvashi, Nedumudi Venu, Lakshmi, and Murali in the main roles. The film is especially known for its music that is largely Carnatic Classical and Semi Classical. The songs were composed by M. Raveendran. Bharatham is interpreted as a modern day adaptation of the Ramayana from Bharath's perspective. How, in the absence of his elder brother, Bharath takes the responsibility of the family and hides his griefs is the core of the story. It won three National Film Awards that year; for Best Actor (Mohanlal), in the category of Special Jury for Raveendran's music, and Best Male Singer (K. J. Yesudas) for the song "Rama Katha Ganalayam".
