Jancso emphasizes highly evocative and ambiguous imagery over dialog or exposition. Here he seems primarily interested in showing the painful, stunted lives of Hungary's intellectuals, who are shown as remaining silent and ineffectual during various political crises. There are several action sequences involving chases and shootouts, but since there's no clear narrative we're not sure how they relate to each other or to anything else. The film is, however, visually fascinating, with shots of police cars, horses, and naked bodies juxtaposed and extensive use of multiple video imagery.

Bittoo believes in spreading happiness through the beautiful moments he captures, moments which you can rewind and keep watching for years and smile looking at them thus making them heartfelt experiences which last forever. He falls in love with an educated and strong-headed girl who makes him realize the importance of financial stability and monetary gains in order to gain respect and recognition. Smitten in love and bitten by the one he loves, the smart and righteous cameraman is lured to take a shortcut in order to earn a quick buck and get his life back on track. What follows is a madcap ride.
4 guys kidnap random people from the street, take them to a remote forest and give them 3 choices: run away, kill us or die. The film follows the fate of one of their victims. That's the plot, if one can really call it such. The film is basically a 45 minute short shot on video by a group of friends in a wood. The budget was basically "bring your own blood packs guys", and it can't have taken more than a day or two to film. If you thought VERSUS was low budget, DOWN TO HELL will recalibrate your scale. It seems hardly fair to criticise a film made in the conditions of DOWN TO HELL for any of the above things though - taken as a bunch of friends spending a couple of days in a wood with a video camera, it's quite a fun experience. Nothing like the adrenalin fix of VERSUS though, and make absolutely no mistake - if it weren't for the success of VERSUS there's no way anybody would be watching DOWN TO HELL now.
